Some are known to cache food items but usually not during non-breeding season. There was a long dead prey item at the entrance to the nestbox which seemed odd. The nestbox was dirty and there was no fresh scrape. There were no birds observed and from what we could tell, it looked like none have been around. The odd thing is that it seemed eerily quiet up there. While there we also did some maintenance to the nestbox by cleaning out some prey remains and fecal matter, painted a bit of the inside walls, and replaced the front perch. yesterday to make changes to the network configuration to get the Falcon Cam back online. We will have to continue to watch and see if any birds begin to occupy the site. Things that don't move don't really pose threats to birds, so they would get used to the railing and carry on like normal.ĭuring the past two nesting seasons, we saw egg laying occur during the last week in March (one week from today). Could the yellow railing have something to do it? That's quite possible, but only right after it was installed. We can't imagine the previous pair simply abandoning this suitable nest site to find another, less suitable area. There could be a new bird who is trying to takeover this nest site. We aren't sure what might have caused the pair to abandon this site. So far there has been little to no activity around the nestbox atop 101 Hudson St. We will continue to keep the camera online through April. Unfortunately, not much has changed since our last update. Thank you all for watching and supporting this initiative over the past 19 years. Until then, the camera will remain offline. We remain optimistic to hear of sightings from building engineers of falcons on the building. We eventually ended the live stream and cancelled internet since there was nothing to see. Well, this season was quite the disappointment. We hope that falcons will one day return to downtown Jersey City. Thank you to all who have enjoyed and supported the JC Falcon Cam. We urge everyone to tune into the Union County Falcon Cam to watch falcons in another urban environment raise young on the rood of a courthouse in Elizabeth. We are not sure of the future of the Jersey City Falcon Cam at this point. Given the high cost of internet service and no activity at the eyrie, we will not be activating the camera this year. We have heard from buidling management and volunteers on the ground who have reported no falcon activity in the area. Usually we would be reporting on activity at or near the nest during this time of year. We'd like to thank everyone who donated to help keep the Falcon Cam online!! Please consider making a donation to support the Jersey City Falcon Cam. This is the 19th season of 24/7 live streaming video, which is the oldest online streaming wildlife focused camera in New Jersey! In 2014, Conserve Wildlife Foundation undertook a fundraising effort to save the Falcon Cam, which was run by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife's Endangered and Nongame Species Program. Welcome to the home of the Jersey City Falcon Cam – a popular webcam that has captured the annual life cycle of a pair of state endangered Peregrine falcons nesting on a Jersey City skyscraper. The last year that the nest was occupied was in 2019. I spent the Friday at Deelen airbase and the Saturday I went to Ossesluis. The Jersey City Falcon Cam streamed the live view from a peregrine falcon nest from 2001 to 2020. Last weekend the USAr Chinooks, Blackhawks and Apaches joined by Dutch CH-47s, NH-90 and Polish Mi8 could be seen during a mass landing to liberate a bridge near Ossesluis in Drenthe. The good thing for us is that the exercise partly takes place in public areas. More than 1,000 soldiers and 37 helicopters participate, at various locations in the Netherlands. During three weeks, armed forces train together with other countries to prepare for large-scale airborne operations. Falcon Autumn is an exercise organised by the Dutch Air Force and Army.
